mother’s day gift guide

mother's day gift ideas

mother’s day is all about spoiling your favourite person – mom! don’t buy her something useful, it’s all about getting her that luxurious item mom wouldn’t spoil herself with – a case of her fave wine, a nespresso machine (total splurge!), a magazine subscription or cozy cashmere blanket. it’s not complete without a mushy card that shows how much you appreciate her – that’s always my mom’s favourite part of any gift and i know it’s a winner if it makes her cry. take your mom out for a day of her favourite things: a stop at a coffee shop for a magazine catch up, a matinee movie (with popcorn, of course!) and a nice lunch or dinner at a spot she favours? ideal day spending quality time i’d say!

i’m lucky to have my mom here for mothers’ day and will be hosting a fancy brunch for the special day at my place for both our families. any menu ideas are welcome!

fashion friday: fine balance

fashion friday
cardi: jones new york (found at winners) // top: asos // skinny jeans: banana republic // bag: vuitton // shoes: kenneth cole // necklace: amrita singh // watch: invicta // nail polish: butter ‘teddygirl’

if you look into my closet, you’ll find a tonne of black basics along with splashes of leopard and brights. i love starting off with an all black outfit and then topping it with a few statement pieces. a neutral shoe just seemed to be just the right tone to balance the look. with a hefty collection of purses, i’ll need to switch up my bag moving into spring and summer, but i’m just too fond of a lux carryall to give it a rest just yet!

a closer look at the statement necklace, which hangs nicely mid-chest or sits right on your décolletage depending on how you wear it:

diy: handmade notecards

handmade notecards

i’ve always been obsessed with pretty paper and random acts of thoughtfulness. i cherish handwritten notes and thank you cards friends send me and love doing the same for those i appreciate. having purchased simple flat note cards and foil lined envelopes online, i decided to make my own notecards and this is how i did it!

{glue pen
glitter
{martha stewart glue pen and glitter, purchased at michaels}

paper and sparkles
{decide on your pattern, draw it with the glue pen, and then pop down the glitter. don’t forget to place a piece up paper to catch all the glitter that will fall}

sparkle notecard{tap off the excess glitter and voila! i chose polka dots, of course}

fashion friday: her way // your way

her way your way

this is a new feature that i’m calling “her way // your way” – we’re making the high end look our own, for less.

celebs have seemingly unlimited funds (not to mention professionals) to style themselves. us mere mortals do not, but we can look like we do! miranda kerr’s look is a simple one, but the high-waisted jeans with the lux bag and sunnies give it a certain polish.

asos flats ($58) // dior sunnies ($284) and a more affordable & unique version: asos ($21) // dooney & bourke bag ($287) // equipment top – this is the same one she’s wearing! ($188) // j brand jeans ($200) and a more affordable version: madewell ($125)

valentines day: jewelry to love

he loves me

what girl doesn’t want a pretty piece of jewelry for valentines day? it doesn’t have to be flashy kim k. sized diamonds, it just has to be thoughtful. to me, thoughtfulness is the definition of romance; these are the cutest little baubles many of which can be engraved!

now, link this post to your sweetheart or leave the laptop open on the coffee table. he’ll get the hint…

kate spade ‘mrs’ studs // baublebar nameplate necklace // tiffany & co. 1837 cuff // tiffany & co. return to tiffany tag // max & chloe engraved necklace // ginette ny diamond ring // jennifer zeuner love bracelet

{every girl deserves to open a beautiful blue box at least once in her life… or so i say!}

valentines day: sweet inspiration

valentines day inspiration board

if you’re feeling uninspired this valentines day, hopefully this inspiration board helps to spark some delight!

a few v-day staples like cupcakes, confetti, fancy heels, a glittery dress, a sweet card, cocktails, a special ‘love’ cake and romantic hot chocolate… sweet, cute and romantic – all covered!

fashion friday: spring trend spotting

rose gold collage

while i prefer the classics to the trends, it’s always fun to spice it up a bit. rose gold looks good on most skin tones and throwing something new into your mix can really give your wardrobe some oomph! what do you think about rose gold? is it more than just a trend for you?

michael kors watch // marc jacobs clutch – just sold out (told you it was hot!) // kate spade bracelet // brian atwood pumps // gucci sunnies // rose gold ring (similar) // deborah lippman polish // tweezerman eyelash curler

valentines day: pop of love

pop of love

we’re two weeks out from that ‘day of love’ – so now might be the time to start planning – these cake pops will definitely impress.

it’s always nice to acknowledge a holiday… even valentines day! while i don’t fuss over this hallmark holiday* too much, i usually make my sweetheart something special in the kitchen (last year it was this). if you’re feeling extra loving, why not surprise your plus one with some cute cake pops or take them to your single girls v-day? i warn you, they are a project, but why not do something out of the box this year?

*hallmark or not, i still swoon when my sweetheart brings home a lil’ something for his lady.

defining your decorating style

classic airy

decorating is a pleasure of mine and although i don’t believe in trends when it comes to my space, i do believe in updating your space when it’s stale and building your decor slowly over time. it takes a great deal of patience to look for the perfect pieces (that don’t cost a fortune!) and not just to go to ikea and buy up a room stage.

my boyfriend is moving into my apartment in the next few months, and we’ll be decorating our bedroom; i’m seeking inspiration for our new space. he’s made it clear that he’s not into the super fem styles, but i think a few of these rooms have a good mix of masculine thrown in. as we choose our pieces, we’re learning compromise…

the first item we have purchased is a cowhide rug for the bedroom similar to this one. i’m very excited to throw it down!

my favorite bedroom is the one i’ve labeled ‘classic & airy’, above. which is yours?
