making a house a home

house to home

slowly but surely changes have been happening around my (OUR) apartment. his cologne is mixed in with my perfume, our office is close to being complete and new photos have been framed in our bedroom. in the coming months, we’ll purchase new dining chairs, our king bed will arrive and my bf and his dad will construct a headboard. i can’t wait to get everything perfected. all of that aside, him being here, and decorating the place together, makes my apartment feel more like a home, and that’s what is most important.

my apartment: a sneak peek

the sparkle home

hello lovely readers! i was recently featured on ‘made by girl’ with an article i wrote on renting entitled ‘the good, the bad and the UGLY’. i took a few snapshots of my apartment to include with the article, so i wanted to give you lovlies a peek into my space. it’s in a state of flux right now; with my boyfriend moving in, there will be BIG updates coming over the next few months (as you can tell by my bedroom, a tad girl-i-fied which just won’t do for him!)

my apartment is the best of all worlds: the location is central to everything, the building is heritage (1900’s) but completely re-finished (granite etc.) and spacious at just under 1000 sq ft. the downside? one bathroom and no outdoor space, but you can’t have it all and even though i’ve been known to be extremely picky, this fits my (our) lifestyle perfectly.

i’m so excited for updates which include changing my current bedroom into a dual office, moving into the bigger bedroom, new kitchen chairs, replacing the bookcase in the dining room with a more modern piece, replacing the tv bench that i’ve re-purposed as a catch all (yuck!), new dining room light fixture… i could go on! it’s a dynamic project and i’m excited to sink my teeth into it.

i’ll have a new set of photos once everything is complete full of fresh ideas and inspiration for your space.

check out my feature after the jump for those of you who are interested!

defining your decorating style

classic airy

decorating is a pleasure of mine and although i don’t believe in trends when it comes to my space, i do believe in updating your space when it’s stale and building your decor slowly over time. it takes a great deal of patience to look for the perfect pieces (that don’t cost a fortune!) and not just to go to ikea and buy up a room stage.

my boyfriend is moving into my apartment in the next few months, and we’ll be decorating our bedroom; i’m seeking inspiration for our new space. he’s made it clear that he’s not into the super fem styles, but i think a few of these rooms have a good mix of masculine thrown in. as we choose our pieces, we’re learning compromise…

the first item we have purchased is a cowhide rug for the bedroom similar to this one. i’m very excited to throw it down!

my favorite bedroom is the one i’ve labeled ‘classic & airy’, above. which is yours?

decor inspiration and ideas

i picked up a few beautiful decor images from around the net i wanted to share. while we don’t all have an unlimited budget to re-do our spaces, i think images like this inspire us to play with different fundamentals of design and find what works for us. i love decorating with white, books, splashes of bright colours and pops of silver and gold. you can pick up cheap and chic items from homesense and ikea to make small updates that don’t break the bank. speaking of breaking the bank – check out that closet!
